Perspectives on what Ghana month should mean for manufacturers: By Elsie and Jenni
Two days ago, I saw "Adunle," a local Ghanaian corn snack, well packaged and sitting on the shelf of a minimart.
As a creative person, my eyes were pleased at such top-notch packaging that could compete with some foreign snacks.
In this current age of Generation Z, the love and enjoyment of locally manufactured snacks are not expressed. Some do not know of their existence.
Gone were the days when "Achomo," "Peanut Cake," "Coconut Candy," and many others were even accessible in traffic. Due to a change in era and an increased taste for foreign candy and food products, the market has switched.
Considering their packaging and with the help of social media, these foreign snacks find their way into the Ghanaian market, catapulting the rapid neglect of our delicious, locally-made snacks. This discourages manufacturers from producing more of them.
Social media is a powerful tool, and currently, a child at the age of 3 or 4 who can read and write well could easily make use of social media under the supervision of an elderly person.
We at Inkniche Global encourage manufacturers to make use of social media to market their products rather than placing them on the shelves of minimarts with the hope of gaining considerable visibility.
In this Ghana month, we must consume what we grow rather than what we import.
This is to help reduce the massive inflation that has hit our country for months now.
The big question is: why can't local food manufacturers package their products like KitKat, Reese, Digestive, and others? Why can't we add the social media gush it needs to generate revenue and bring back the love for these snacks?
Engaging in social media is very simple and easy with the help of a quality phone and strong data.
By creating content like teaching the process of making snacks and how to consume them, we can reach a wider audience.
Manufacturers can also reach out to social media marketing agencies like Inkniche Global for help.
In this Ghana month, let us work together to revive the presence and consumption of our locally produced foods (snacks) and make waves on the Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk platforms.
God bless our homeland, Ghana.
